Biz - exploration: My Entreprenurial Journey

Biz - exploration

The entreprenurial journey is a long and winding road to success .This blog will tell my story as I make my way down the less trodden path.I will share the joys, the pains , the lessons and the triumphs along the way.

As a young girl aged 9 in 1995 in my then home town of Chinhoyi is where the seed for entrepreneurship was sowed in my life.My mother a very enterprising woman would have us sell freezits / penny cools from a cooler box .I would watch her travel to South Africa to buy wares for resale .She would bring the latest fashions in clothes ,toys and shoes. This was in addition to her jersey knitting business and a full time job as a teacher.

It is from her that I learnt that it was essential for one to work with their hands to earn an extra income. At the end of the month I would earn a small income from my "part time" job and what a joy it was to know that I had profited from my labours.

In today's world where we see the emergence of billionaires like Mark Zuckerberg , Ashish J Thakker , Dangote. There is one underlying factor that is hard work .To be an entrepreneur one has to have an inherent and resolve to work hard and in most cases burn the midnight oil to succeed.

To be an entrepreneur one has to realize that the only place success comes before work  is in the dictionary. As one takes up the entrepreneurship journey one has to be willing to work , work long hours , rain or shine and thanks to my Mother I learnt this early in life.

Lessons @ 27

This year was an eye opening experience in which I discovered the things that really matter. I never understood when my Mum said with age comes wisdom, proving that parents do know something kkkkkkk. I have learnt some key things this year

Only quality people are critical value them

Not all people are created equal. There are people who will help you get to your destiny, some will derail you and some will watch you. The pareto rule applies only people too, sad but true spend the most time on 20% who will cheer on, give you a kick etc to help you get to your destiny. These are the people who really matter and concentrate most of your efforts there. The 50% are those you may give the benefit of the doubt. The final group are "friends" who will be waiting for you to fall into a pit and fail or those who do not value as you do them. Keep your investment to the minimal with these two groups. Time is to precious to waste on people who dont add value. Get rid of the gossiping buddy and read a book, exercise, do something to develop yourself. they are dead weight threatening to bring you down.

Develop yourself as a person

The 21st century is characterised as the information age where everything changes in a second with the advent of new technology. It is critical to be up to speed with the whats what or one wil become like the manufacturer still trying to come up with the best mouse trap after the advent of pesticide. Be aware of whats happening around you in all facets of life. Read a paper , a book, a website etc.Ignorance is a cancer that can destroy you.

Take care of your body

Sugar and spice and all things nice are associated with girls. I had a serious love affair with chocolate, fizzy drinks and all things glucose. This relationship has cost me greatly and now its time to lose those kgs and start a healthy lifestyle. The warning signs were having to crawl / walk huffing and puffing up stairs, get a new wardrobe. Its a typical GIGO case,ou what y I realised I have one body and for it to last the mileage i need to feed it well, exercise etc. Reading that ageing starts @27 was a wake up call for me.

Learn how to manage your finances well

I love shoes like any woman on earth but this statement by Warren buffet forced me to put a freeze on the shoes

  • Never depend on a single income. Make an investment to develop a second stream
  • On spending , if you buy things you do not need , you have to sell the things you need
  • On saving, do not save what you have after you spend , save before you spend
  • On taking risks, never test the depth of a river with both legs
  • On investment , do not put your eggs in one basket.
I am definately making better decisions with my money and saving up for that first house which i intend to buy by the time i turn 30. Not to

Life is an individual journey , not a group effort, do what makes you happy.

Milestones in life differ for everyone . As a lady the other side of 25 there have been may interrogation sessions where I am quizzed on when the big day is. How  I am not getting any younger etc, My take is Fall in love and get married when you are ready not when everyone thinks you should,.Marriage can be a one way ticket to bliss or hell so choose wisely. Milestones happen at different times for different people, so do what makes you happy. If its travelling to Paris, buying a motorcycle, bungee jumping do it . Live a life with no regrets, do what you wish as long  its legal and moral that is. People will always talk anyway whatever you do

Looking foward to 28 am sure will learn many more life lessons. Until the hasta lavista stay fabulous.

SEVEN WAYS TO CURE A LEAN PURSE

Hello cronies its been a while since I penned something . I just thought to share something I learnt recently. The world today is burdened by debt . The collapse of the US housing market the current impasse in the US which has ground the  US economy is because of you guessed it!!!!!!!!
DEBT
The whole world is stuck in this great big whole and it seems it become invogue to leave beyond your means. The rat race has reached its peak and people are strangled by this never ending chain of borrow, borrow, borrow .
Today I want to propose a new way to survive a place where there is no long queue waiting like virtual scavengers for your income a place where you can save for that which you have always wanted. It sounds like a fairytale right ,but it can be done.
I read this book called  The Richest Man in Babylon ithe book stresses simplicity and common sense in the management of one's finances.  It offers 7 remedies to getting your purse fatter and this will help you to become financially free if you follow these principles.

FIRST CURE: Start thy purse to fattening.

The stream of money that flows into and out of one's life is immense. Wealth and security can be secured from it, but only if portions of that stream are diverted. Time and again, the book's "enlightened" characters stress saving at least ten percent of your income every month, without fail. Accomplish this by setting aside that ten percent before all other expenses are considered.

"But when I began to take out from my purse but nine parts of the ten I put in," Arkad said, "it began to fatten. So will thine."

SECOND CURE: Control thy expenditures.

The amount of money a person makes is important, but it is secondary to the degree to which that person controls his expenses.   Budget and plan your expenses earnestly. Demand value for the dollars you spend.

"That what each of us calls our 'necessary expenses' will always grow to equal our incomes unless we protest to the contrary," Arkad stated.   "Confuse not the necessary expenses with thy desires."

THIRD CURE: Make thy gold multiply.

Three words:   interest, interest, interest. Take care to see that all saved monies are kept in the highest-yield interest-bearing accounts available. If you have the experience and education to do so, invest a portion of your money by other means, always striving to create a reasonable risk/reward ratio.

"A man's wealth is not in the coins he carries in his purse; it is the income he buildeth. That is what thou desireth:   an income that continueth to come whether thou work or travel."

FOURTH CURE: Guard thy treasures from loss.

Forget about gunning for those astronomical returns promised by market gurus and their "hot tips." And don't bother with those wacky startup businesses you see boxed in the classified ads, either. If you're going to take risks and invest your money, then make sure you have the education to know how to guard and protect your assets. Only you can keep your best interests at the forefront. Your savings control your future; treat them like it.

"The first sound principle of investment is security for thy principal.   The penalty of risk is probable loss.   Study carefully, before parting with thy treasure, each assurance that it may be safely reclaimed.   Be not misled by thine own desires to make wealth rapidly."

FIFTH CURE: Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment.

In most cases, home ownership — even when financing is included — is preferable to renting. At some point, the mortgage payments will end, and ownership will be achieved. There is no ownership for the renter ... ever.

"Thus come many blessings to the man who owneth his own house. And greatly will it reduce his cost of living, making available more of his earnings for pleasures and the gratification of his desires."

SIXTH CURE: Insure a future income.

The future cannot be known, but preparations can be taken to assure a certain level of financial safety. Whether this is done via a strict savings plan, outside insurance, or a combination of both, one must be careful to provide for the wellness of himself and his loved ones in later years. Disability and untimely death have caught and ruined families and their finances since time immemorial.

"No man can afford not to insure a treasure for his old age and the protection of his family, no matter how prosperous his business and investments may be."

SEVENTH CURE: Increase thy ability to earn.

Last among Clason's "cures" is action taken to increase one's earnings. Acquire education, experience, and confidence in yourself, and use these things to improve your income. You might begin a second, part-time job, or simply freelance your abilities in your spare time. Whatever you do, never underestimate the opportunity to turn a favorite hobby or skill (woodworking, photography, home decorating, cooking, etc.) into extra income.

"The more of wisdom we know, the more we may earn. The man who seeks to learn more of his craft shall be richly rewarded. Cultivate thy own powers, study and become wiser, become more skillful, and act as to respect thyself."

INCREASE YOUR CAPACITY

God has given each person different abilities but , there are certain keys that lead one to overflow in blessing as outlined  often The last part is of interest to me it says speaks of a cup and thus the point at which it overflows is determined by the size of your cup. The cup speaks of CAPACITY.

WHAT IS CAPACITY?

Definitions

1.     The maximum amount that something can contain: "seating capacity".".

2.     ability - power - aptitude - competence

3       The ability to receive, hold, or absorb.

4       The maximum amount that can be contained: a trunk filled to capacity.

.

5        Ability to perform or produce; capability.

6       The power to learn or retain knowledge; mental ability.

7       Innate potential for growth, development, or accomplishment; faculty

8       The quality of being suitable for or receptive to specified treatment: the capacity of elastic to be stretched.

Capacity is defined in simple terms is the ability to receive, retain knowledge, grow in accordance with the blessings God gives you.

One would then ask if capacity differs across people. I will use a picture that happens in nature but depicts capacity. In Malachi 3 God outlines the results of tithing i.e. He will cause blessings to pour out from the windows of heaven for us mortals that will be rain I layman’s language. Let’s take a journey into a bit of geography for this segment just bear with me.

In this example I will typify the earth as being a Christian and Rain the blessings of God still together.

Alright let’s begin.

Rainfall Intensity

As a person grows in Christ and begins to tithe and serve so the blessings of God begin to fall as rain on you. As your level of giving increases so does the rain. i.e. Give and it shall be given unto you pressed down shaken together running over.  Now it’s raining let’s look at what’s happening on the earth. (In the Christian’s life)

Vegetation cover

The two pictures above are a symbol of the christian. To me this speaks of the faith level in a person i.e. how wordfull you are determines how much rain sinks. The thicker the vegetation the higher the infiltration capacity, i.e. the more full of the word you are the more faith you have and thus the greater capacity you have to walk in the promises and blessings of God. If there is little or no vegetation the water just runs as overland flow i.e. there is little or no ability to hold and walk in the blessing of God.

Slope or Gradient

The gradient of the land affects the infiltration capacity i.e. the steeper the slope the higher the level of runoff and vice versa. The slope to me speaks of the mindset and attitudes towards the particular blessings being given to you. E.g. if one has a mindset that walking is the best way of travelling that person has not yet developed a mindset to receive a car , aeroplane i.e. lack the capacity to receive that blessing. If a person is thankful and expectant they create the right gradient to receive from God i.e. a gentle slope

Soil type (my all time favourite)

Soil type varies from region to region due to the geological conditions that prevail in area clay soils have a low infiltration capacity and are able to retain soil moisture. This is the opposite of the sandy soils. The midpoint soil type would be a Loam soil which balances both. Back to the Christian some of us are able  to receive the blessings very fast like sandy school but have no capacity to retain them that they become generational blessings the vice versa is true for the clay soil. The loam soil typifies the best soil type has a good infiltration rate and retains sufficient soil moisture. It is thus critical to be like the loam soil able to receive to the blessings and retain them

Effects of urbanization

As we said before the Christian is typified by the earth if urbanization has occurred. If there is a pavement in the city the water cannot and will not sink. The same applies to us barriers such sin, compromise and ingratitude affect the way we receive the blessings of God.

Dig away that pavement and let His rain sink into you

The factors detailed above are only a snippet of the things that affect ones capacity. The next logical question will be

HOW DO I INCREASE MY CAPACITY?

Maybe you are a sandy soil with a steep slope, with sparse vegetation cover and have a pavement on you. There is hope you can increase your capacity this year

Read the Word of God and meditate on HIS promises you will be stretched and your faith will grow.

Work on your mindset expose yourself to new things, read widely, travel it opens your mind to new possibilities whoever thought that there would be a flying car but it’s there

·        Go to school – do a course in line with the vision you have

·        Associate with people with greater visions than you

·        Imagine and dream. Think crazy thoughts stretch that grey matter

·        Submit yourself to godly people and counsel

·        Live  a pure life manifesting the fruits Gal:4v 22 and the gifts of the spirit 1 Corinthians 12

It is essential to grow ones capacity in this year Enlarge your tent continue to stretch make room for more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I definitely am

YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORRROW.

Today I was reflecting on this flower. It’s truly an amazing flower which I am in love with its beautiful hues of purple and white take my breath away. It has such a sweet fragrance and every spring it encourages me.

It reminds me of Philippians 3:13-14 which says “No dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus is calling us.”

This scripture really inspires me as a Christian our yesterday is the past mistakes and the state of sin which we once were as people. It’s amazing that when one gets born again God separates us from our past sinful state and become a new creation. The things that we have gone through in the past are totally blotted out and we receive a clean sheet, a new page to write a new story.

We have to forget our past hurts and failures and move on into the present state of Today. The state today is one being a co heir with Christ justified by the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. (Romans 8:1-4). We walk in the new walk strengthened by the Holy Spirit walking towards the fullness of the destiny that Jesus Christ has for us. It is critical to work towards ones destiny and accomplish one’s full potential.

 Tomorrow

This represents our future as children of God. The word of God in Psalm 139 says before I formed you in the womb I knew you. God has a destiny for each of us . We have let go the baggage we have today and press on to the call we have which has been authored by the Greatest Author Himself.

So next time you see this flower think of the wonderful gift of life God has given. us of a new start each day

Hats off to you ladies of the age gone by

The twenty first century woman

The celebration of Women's Day last month just got me thinking about how lucky I am as woman in the 21st century to have access to the things I call normal but , were not a reality in the past. Today i have the privilege of being a univesity graduate, able to vote  and have a job  because of great women who stood up dor what they  believed in. I am just taking a walk through memory lane to see how I came to be in the privileged position that I am today.

In the early 1800s women in Europe were a marginalised portion in the society whose main role was to be bare foot and pregnant. The main responsibility of the woman was to cater for the home ie cater for the needs of her children and husband. The majority of women were uneducated with the exception of the elite class . In Africa when education was introduced by the missionaries it was chiefly boys who went to school as families felt that educating a female child was a waste of the families resources.

Women were slowly integrated in the workforce but this was the beginning of a long battle for emancipation. In 1848 the suffrage movement in America began the first women rights convention was held where women outlined their grievances and this became the basis of the women's rights movement. The list of grievances included the right to vote and improved wages and working conditions among them maternity leave. Women also fought for the rights to utilise birth control with Margaret Sanger opening the first birth control clinic in the US which was closed ten days later and she was arrested.

Women were granted the right to vote in August 1920 after more than 50 years of advocacy. The pill was finally legalised is 1965 in the US .However , many countries are still lagging behind in these respect with women in Saudi Arabia still advocating for the right until 2011 .There are many women who have championed for the rights of women over the ages and I am truly amazed in the way they have shown determination in campaigning for what we take for granted today.

Today women can become anything they want to be . Beyond the sky is indeed the limit. These are the faces of women today.

These are the faces of women today .The women who we see today have attained to levels which were unimaginable before. Today as I reflect on these women I am in awe for these women.
My life has been impacted by these names and faces I will never know who have paved the way for women to enter the upper echelons of society . The women  like Magaret Thatcher, Joyce Banda,Indira Ghandi and Madam Curie are only part of the legacy of these women . I salute these women and the only question that remains is. What shall be said of my generation. How shall we impact history as women? Food for thought hey.

Finding ur sweet spot

In the past I often wondered what this statement means. As an avid fan of all things sweet I thought this implied the ultimate candy store. Thank God for revelation hey. A person's sweet spot is that place where they are walking in the fullness of their divine purpose and doing the stuff they were made to do.

The main problem people face is not having a clear purpose of what or who they are supposed to be. It should be one's main agenda  to discover  their destiny. The greatest inventions have come out of men and women discovering the things that they love and pursuing the. Florence nightingale had a passion for health,Thomas Edison made the light bulb among othe inventions and Bill Gates a mogul in developing software . The result of these men and women discovering their sweet spot benefit to us all as individuals.

The reason why so may people are frustrated is because they have not discovered themselves . Let me give an example ; If I had 1000 bricks to ferry to my house i would use a lorrynot a limosine. Sadly that is where most of us are stuck trying to be an astrpphysicist when you were supposed to be a painter. Doing things you have a passion for opens up a whole world of possiblility. The mindset of most is do the ordinary and not mess up the status quo. Well news flash everyone is extraordinary and there is amazing potential to suceed in the thing you love.

The normal path is to go to university get a job , buy a house and eventually be the MD. This is what has killed the impetus of many young people . It is high time  a new approach that the embraces human diversity is adopted and give people the wings to be the best at what they are good at. The graveyard has become the richest resource as  people have not dared to go where noone has gone before. The cures for debilitating diseases , new communication technology  etc lie in people discovering what they are good at. This is a paradigm shift from what has subsisted and requires great flexibility in us all to make the change.

ITS TIME TO FIND WHAT U LOVE AND DO IT and REVOLUTIONIZE THE WORLD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
